Doing Well With Our Scared Little Girl

We are doing well today. We finalized our adoption (yay!) and everything went well. I did get a little nervous when the notary started questioning us why we would want 7 children. He just kept asking and asking. In the end, I think he was curious and just didn't get how anyone could parent seven children. He actually asked how I keep them from fighting. And then told me he has troubles with just his one. He also asked Mia questions in Mandrin, which she shook her head no to, which again made me nervous. Not sure what they were saying, but evidently she did agree to let us adopt her. (At age 7 they have the option to say no. yikes!)

After the adoption process we went shopping for some shoes for Mia, since she only came with dress shoes, and new tennis shoes that we about 4 sizes too big. She definitely had an opinion about which shoes we bought. But in the end, agree to a pair that was on clearance. She is definitely a girl that knows what she wants, but I think she will be very trainable with bargain shopping.

Mia told our guide today that she is very scared! It brings tears to my eyes to think how overwhelming this must all be for her. She is definitely much happier when we are with her little friend Annie or with the guide Connie. She would much rather hold their hands, but our guide is good about directing her back to momma. Before she left us for the day, we had her talk to Mia. She told her how much we love her and that she is safe with us.

We came back up to the room and ate noodles and such in the room, and then had Mia lay down for a rest. She actually fell asleep for about an hour. When she woke up, she came to the couch and sat right next to me. I can tell that she is going to be so sweet and delightful when she gets used to her new life. We did realize that she can read, so we are able to use the Chinese English dictionary to show her phrases, and she can read what we are trying to say. We are hoping to get a translator downloaded onto Corinne's i-touch later today to help as well.

She also likes to organize her things over and over. Hoping that bodes well for neatness at home.

Well she just put her shoes on because our guide told her after nap, we would take her to the park to play.

I will try to get some more pictures posted later tonight.

Thank you for all your comments! We have loved reading them all, as they are a great encouragement to know we are not alone on this side of the world. Keep them coming!

PTL she is doing so well. I know your heart aches to know she is scared, "But we pray right now, in the name of Jesus, that a spirit of fear would be bound. Lord your word says you have not given us a spirit of fear, but of love and a sound mine, and also a spirit of adoption to know we are sons and daughters of yours. We pray you would release that spirit right now over Mia, and she would know she is loved, adopted, and accepted. We pray for no more fear. Fill her up with courage, love, and acceptance. In Jesus name,Amen." Will continue to pray she becomes more and more confident in her time with you. Can't wait to see more pics. Hannah is watching and wondering what it will be like for her. I'm sure she will have a lot of questions when you get back!

We are praying for Mia's heart and fears. That song Our God by Chris Tomlin came to my mind as I read your post. Our God is stronger and higher and greater than all her worries - we will be praying her calms her nerves and that her comfort level softens as you all spend the next several days together in China. Hugs from the Gillmans!!
