We made it to China!
We had a little troubles finding our guide when we arrived. She kept calling the airport for a status on our flight and it kept telling her we were delayed, even though we had already landed. An hour after our flight landed, she came into the airport to see how much longer the flight would be delay. Luckily I saw her come in and recognized her from pictures on other families blogs.
We loaded up and headed to the Victory Hotel. We got a suite, just so we wouldn't go stir crazy being on top of each other for 2 weeks. It has a king bed and a chaise sofa, and then we had an air mattress delivered through Gifst of Love to China. The air mattress and pump was $30 vs $30 per night for a roll-away. It should work fine.
We settled in and all took showers, which felt good after almost 30 hours of travel. The first thing Kevin plugged in blew the circuit in the room - so we will be doing without the power strip which is now fried. Ah well, at least it wasn't something more important. We have figured out the internet. And now we are getting ready to go explore the island a little and stock up on water from the 7-11.
The goal at this point is to stay awake until a reasonable bedtime. I am hoping we find a diet coke with some caffeine or I will be buying toothpicks for my eyelids.
Very surreal being here. I asked Kevin if he keeps asking himself what in the world we are doing here. He said yes, so at least I am not alone in these fleeting thoughts. I am excited, nervous, and mostly sleepy all wrapped in one.

Kevin and Sherry,
The time will fly by, so cherish it. We loved our time in China and found Shamian Island to be a very peaceful place. The park right around the corner from the Victory is a great place to just relax.
You are in our thoughts and prayers!
The Millers
So so happy you're THERE. . .try a lychee soda if you can. . .they are yummy. You can buy lychee fruit at any of the markets and they are good (and packed with vitamins). Oh. . .and the pastries at the Starbucks' in China are WAY better than the ones here. Just an FYI. . .
